Morning everyone! I hope you were able to enjoy this glorious fall weekend. Walking to work this morning I toyed with the idea of playing hooky to take advantage of the all too brief seasonal charms. I was even treated to a whiff of someone baking some sort of pumpkin treat which inspired me to get cracking on some autumnal baking myself. (Thank you anonymous Linden Street baker!) With my favorite day of the year soon approaching I’m feeling good.
Would that everyone were felling as optimistic as myself. I know my resident Redskins fan is barely able to speak so my sympathies to those of you who care about such things.
So did anyone take any of my suggestions and check out some neighborhood culture?
Lauren: Spent Friday night catching up with my dvr, and remembering it wasn’t that long ago that we had to actually sit through commercials. Saturday night we headed to H Street and had dinner and drinks at Granville Moore’s with friends. Sunday I enjoyed the nice weather and ventured out to a friend’s house in Arlington in the afternoon.
Jon: Friday I got a sneak peak of the new District Architecture Center in Penn Quarter, then enjoyed a quiet night at home. Saturday morning found us hanging out at Eastern Market in the morning, which included breakfast from Tortilla Cafe and buying bulbs from the Capitol Hill Garden Club. We went to “Boo at the Zoo” Saturday night, which while crowded was well-run and a fun time. Sunday want spent cooking, cleaning, and laundering (clothes), followed by dinner with extended family.
Nichole: Friday night I headed up to Silver Spring to see Yonder Mountain String Band with friends but not before downing a mug of grog at Piratz Tavern. Saturday I explored the more rural parts of PG County with my best friend since childhood, who just moved to DC and needs enough land to keep her 5 (soon to be 8) alpacas happy. Sunday was a lazy day at home, which ended with a quick trip downtown for frozen yogurt (because I’ve been to 32 Below so often this month, I needed some different flavor choices).
Liz enjoyed the kids’ elementary school event, the Maury Fall Festival, where young contestants dunked our brave principal, Carolne Albert-Garvey, (we missed you, Sharee!) and where Silvia won a first Pinkalicious cake during the cakewalk. Later, enjoyed pasta dish sampler at Acqua al Due. What a nice night for chianti. Sunday was spent chiefly in Silver Spring with the greater family.
Jen: This weekend I headed to Harrisonburg, VA for a reunion of the group who went to London for a semester abroad. Twentieth for those who are counting. I was able to squeeze in a trip to see an old flame play Hamlet at the American Shakespeare Center in nearby Staunton (It was very good. Go see it.) but the rest of the weekend was spent laughing, reminiscing, laughing and telling each other that we have not aged a day.
Sharee enjoyed yet another fantastic evening at the Litereary Feast, and got her first look at the Hill Center for dessert and dancing that evening. Sunday was brunch at Pound — Claudia wasn’t kidding, it was so, so good. This was followed by a lazy afternoon and dinner at Morrison Clark.
Maria whimper-aww-boo-cooed her way through 50/50; lost her voice completely; had spicy Indian food at the White Tiger; attended an incredibly fun murder mystery party at Labyrinth and successfully made many in attendance think she didn’t speak English at all; got groceries; harvested a purple green bean as big as a small zucchini; and tried to keep it together.
