Exercise Your Green Thumb, Satisfy Your Curiousity

This Saturday, October 22, between 10am and 1pm the Sherwood Neighborhood Volunteers invite you to join them for the fall clean up at Sherwood Recreation Center (10 & G, NE).  Bring gloves, if you have them, and pitch in for a little mulching, weeding, and planting hundreds of spring bulbs (courtesy of the Capitol Hill Garden Club).  I also hear there’ll be coffee from Sidamo and other treats.  In the past, the Volunteers group has landscaped, planted trees and done a fantastic job making the grounds of one of our local rec centers look as pleasant and welcoming as the staff inside.  And, on that note …

If you don’t know much about the DC Parks and Recreation centers, there are open houses this week and next.  It’s your chance to come meet the staff, hear about programs, activities and events and tour the facilities.  Learn what these great neighborhood resources have to offer.  The newly spruced-up Sherwood will have its fall open house on Monday, October 24, from 6-8pm.  Watkins, at 420 12th, SE, will have its open house tomorrow, the 20th, from 6-8pm; and Rosedale, at 500 19th St, NE, welcomes visitors on October 27th from 6-8pm.
