Northeast Neighborhood Library has been wrapped in tarp for months, but its slowly coming down, revealing a revitalized facade underneath. The project is part of the Library Building Program, a guide to bring state-of-the-art libraries to our community.
Sixteen projects are listed on the library’s website. Of the projects still in progress, seven are to build new libraries, such as in Anacostia, while four are historic renovations, like Northeast. While the work on the building itself is progressing toward its end, there are still some new elements to come. For instance, the grounds were virtually wiped clean when the project began, so the project will include “extensive landscape improvements” and an outdoor patio/reading room with seating. The project completion date is listed as spring 2010.
