Since honey bees (I hope that’s what you’ve got, and not wasps) are so rapidly declining in recent years across the world, it would be best not to have them killed, but to have a specialist come in and remove them to somewhere useful, such as an orchard.  My parents did that a few times, in mid-state NY.

Here’s a website for a place that sells honey, but also that lists bee retrieval and ‘repatriation’ services across the country–the ‘local’ one for DC is in Arlington.  The site also has links on how to identify what kind of bees/wasps you have.  The site warns that beekeepers don’t want bees that have been sprayed with any chemicals, so if you plan to have them removed alive and carted away, then don’t spray them with anything til you talk to the Arlington people.
