How shall we continue to distract ourselves from understanding what’s going on in the rest of the country?

Tonight learn the art and science behind cupping. We mean cupping as in coffee tasting and not the Michael Phelps body treatment. Peregrine Espresso will teach tonight’s Union Market Test Kitchen workshop. Participants will also learn skills to brew excellent coffee at home. The workshop is $40 and begins at 6pm. Friday at noon the ice rink at Canal Park opens. The season looks fun with a variety of events. Learn more on the rink’s website.

It’s super fun here in the Capital, isn’t it? Watch out for that skater from District 12 though. She looks tough.

This sounds interesting and apt. Showcase Arts Foundation presents an original musical comedy called War Virgin at Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW.) Written by West Point grad and Iraq veteran Laura Westley the show answers the question, “What happens when an attractive, naïve, virginal, young female Army soldier deploys to war with thousands of eager, testosterone-laden, men?” Westly has also written a memoir and will be signing books post show. Tickets are $50 and you can buy them here.

Saturday bring the kids to the Atlas Performing Arts Center for Imagination Stage’s production of Looking for Roberto Clemente a story of a group of kids in 1970s Pittsburgh during the time Roberto Clemente took the losing Pirates to victory. Tickets are $20 and you can get them here.

Sunday the Hill Center concludes the Political Nightmares Film Series with a screening of Fail Safe, which came out the same year as Dr. Strangelove. The film is a less absurd take on nuclear weapons starring Henry Fonda and Walter Matthau. The screening begins at 4pm and is free. Register here.

The Corner Store hosts the National Symphony Orchestra’s Last Stand Quartet. Alexandra Osborne, violin, Joel Fuller, violin, Mahoko Eguchi, viola & Rachel Young, cello, for their third Corner Store program Magic! The concert begins at 5pm and tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Get tickets here.
