The Set List: Nov 30-Dec 14

unnamedWith these next two weeks jam-packed with a variety of music from funk to soul to pop punk, there is sure to be something for everyone.

On the Hill:

On December 9, alternative rock band Copeland will take the stage at the Rock and Roll Hotel, supported by Rae Cassidy and a live string section. Copeland has made their mark in the music world with their transcendent, dreamy melodies, meaningful lyrics, and the incredible vocals of Aaron Marsh. After a six-year hiatus, Copeland came back strong with their revolutionary sixth studio album, Ixora, in 2014. This show is bound to be an incredible night with a band that has influenced the music of so many others. Buy tickets here.

And if you’re bummed you missed White Ford Bronco at 9:30 Club, now’s your chance to get tickets to see them at the Rock & Roll Hotel. December 10th, an early AND a late show. Buy your tickets here.

Around DC:

Norway’s own up and coming pop punk group, Sløtface, will be headlining DC9 Nightclub on December 2. Their punk bass lines and the vocals of singer Haley Shea will draw you into their unique, youthful sound. It’s nearly impossible to not bounce around with the beat as soon as these guitar-driven jams start. Sløtface is currently working on their debut LP, but their EP We’re Just Okay has already received plenty of well-deserved attention. Buy tickets here.

If you’re down with the winter blues, spend the evening of December 2 at U Street Music Hall. Ripe, a Boston octet will showcase their fresh combination of funk and pop. Also performing that night is Lawrence, a New York soul-pop group led by siblings Clyde and Gracie. These co-headliners mix old and new vibes that are sure to boost your spirits. Buy your tickets here.

Lizzo is making waves as a gifted soul singer and wordsmith. Her personality can be heard in every song she performs, especially on her new EP Coconut Oil. She even opened for Sleater-Kinney on their reunion tour after capturing the attention of the band. On December 3 at U Street Music Hall, Lizzo will captivate you with her musical styling that defies a simple definition. Buy tickets here.

The name might not sound like a normal band in the indie-pop genre, so Rainbow Kitten Surprise is sure to catch your attention. Taking influence from bands such as Kings of Leon and Modest Mouse, RKS creates guitar-driven music filled with the singular voice of singer Sam Mello. Their biggest song, “Devil Like Me,” hit number 16 in the US on Spotify’s Viral 50 Chart upon its release. On their short east coast run, RKS will perform at Black Cat on December 7. Buy tickets here.

Presented by 106.7 The Fan, rock band O.A.R will take over 9:30 Club on Saturday, December 10 to benefit the Heard the World Fund. This fund was created by O.A.R. to support youth and education in the United States. O.A.R. has had an incredible career since forming in 1996. Their career has included 8 studio albums as well as a career-spanning compilation entitled XX, which was released in 2016. General Admission tickets are currently sold out for this show, but if you’re willing to drop some cash, some VIP tickets are still available. Buy your tickets here.

Formed in 1993, Jimmy Eat World took over the airwaves for years, especially with their 2001 hit “The Middle.” It’s no surprise that their show on December 14 at 9:30 Club is currently sold out, so if you were lucky enough to get tickets, you’re in for an incredible, energetic show. Jimmy Eat World has become a staple in the pop punk scene over the years and continues to make music that pushes genre boundaries with their brand new album Integrity Blues.  Tickets are already sold out so you’ll have to try your luck off-market.
