Elections:

Meet the Candidates: Meredith Fascett ANC 6D07

We have offered to post brief statements from all of the ANC candidates running for seats on Capitol Hill and the surrounding neighborhoods that we cover here on The Hill is Home.  These statements are not endorsements and have been posted exactly as submitted by the candidates.

Meredith Fascett - ANC6D07Serving as your ANC Commissioner has been an extraordinary experience. I love the Navy Yard neighborhood and am absolutely committed to its success. My husband and I are raising our kids here because we love our diverse community of neighbors, wonderful parks, outstanding businesses, and stellar schools.

Every day as your Commissioner, I strive to: 1) Build Community – I want Navy Yard to be the place you love to call home; 2) Balance Livability with Development – I want residents to have a high quality of life amidst the on-going construction; 3) Provide Good Governance – I aim to give you responsive, proactive, solutions-oriented representation and I hold District agencies to the same standards; and 4) Collaborate for Best Outcomes – I want to hear from you. Together we have the greatest success.

We’ve had a track record of wins over the past 21 months. Because of our efforts, DCRA and DDOT now listen to community input when evaluating after-hours construction permits and construction staging in our neighborhood’s public spaces. DCPS is building lovely areas for community recreation in Joy Evans Park and creating a safe route between the two new playgrounds. Residents got the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with experts from DDOT and CSX/Clark/Parsons on the design for the restoration of Virginia Ave. Also, Fire Chief Dean, DC Homeland Security Director Geldart, and DC Department of the Environment Director Wells came to our community for an emergency preparedness meeting with residents living near the CSX railroad tracks.

There’s still much more to do. We need to make sure that our Community Center becomes a flourishing center for civic engagement and is staffed and funded for success. We need to get I St. SE between New Jersey Ave. and S. Capitol St. redesigned and get the 4th and M St. SE intersection fixed. We need to weigh in on the new development slated for the neighborhood and advocate for more homeownership opportunities. We need to optimize our green space and push DPR to renovate the rest of Joy Evans Park. We need to continue to work together as neighbors and with MPD to improve public safety. And that’s just the beginning.

I hope I can count on your vote on November 8th and your partnership for the next two years! Contact me at Meredith.Fascett@gmail.com, on Facebook at www.facebook.com/MeredithforDC or on Twitter at @MeredithFascett.

Please note that our new voting location is at the Community Center at 1000 5th St. SE. Vote Meredith Fascett for ANC 6D07!
