The classic film Singin’ in the Rain will screen at Congressional Cemetery Friday evening.

It feels very quiet around town. I know there are tourists, but it feels like the rest of DC is on a great vacation while the sad few of us are sitting here waiting for this weekend’s heat dome. How shall we endure oncoming sweat-uation?

Tonight learn to embrace the heat theway so much of the world does, with spices. This week’s cooking class at Union Market feature Bazaar Spices and chef, author, and foodblogger Skiz Fernando who will share the basic flavors and techniques of Sri Lankan cooking.  Students will learn to make homemade Sri Lankan curry powder as well as chicken curry and coconut roti. The class begins at 6pm and costs $35. Register here.

Friday Congressional Cemetery hosts another Cinemetary, featuring one of the greatest films ever (according to me): Singin’ in the Rain. Even my,  ahem, “discerning” children liked it when they were forced to watch a few years back. The gates open at 7:30 and the film begins at 8:30. Attendees are encouraged to bring picnics and beverages and there is a suggested donation of $10.

In a another example of just embracing the heat, Galley O/H hosts Incendio Art for Set the Night on Fire, which will support the organization’s efforts at Burning Man 2016. The event begins at 8pm and costs $10.

Mentalist Alain Nu performs at Capitol Hill Arts Workshop this weekend. Nu is “an international performance artist and an entertaining man of mystery.” He has taken his act all over the world and will surely blow minds in the intimate CHAW space. Tickets are $20 and are available here.

Saturday morning, Nationals pitcher Tanner Roark will be at the Northeast Library to read stories, chat about baseball and libraries and has agreed to a Q and A. No pictures or autograph requests can be accommodated, so go in with that knowledge and you won’t be disappointed.  Your Insta will have to make do with another picture of your latte art. The event is free and begins at 11:30am. Go Nats!

Sunday, Washington Post’s resident barbecue expert Jim Shahin teaches a Barbecue Boot Camp at 11am. Students will learn the ins and outs of grilling and smoking with both charcoal and wood. The menu includes Spice Rubbed Pork Ribes, Smoked Chicken Wings with Alabama White Sauce, Grilled Watermelon and Heirloom Tomato Salad, Smoked Potato Salad, Asian Coleslaw and beer from DC Brau. The cost is $85 and it sounds like it will be worth every penny. Register here.

Agora Dance performs two free performances of 3 Minutes Max  at 3pm and 4pm at Rosedale Field (1701 Gales St. NE). The performances are just twenty minutes and will be followed by a brief Q and A.
