Capitol Hill:

Capitol Hill on your TV

tnA few months ago, I wrote about a TV show, WETA Neighborhoods, that was being partially filmed on Capitol Hill. The show, which operates under the slogan “Exploring Our Community, One New Story at a Time,” was originally broadcast from 2005-7, and has recently been revived. It always had focused on looking at odd corners of Washington, and thus it was unsurprising that they interviewed me about a number of local alleys as well as at Congressional Cemetery.

The episode is now completed, and ready for broadcast. Along with Capitol Hill, three other neighborhoods are featured: Georgetown, Dupont Circle, and Anacostia, and the topics range from the Daytime Emmy award-winning drama Anacostia: The Series to the new Dupont Underground to the spies of Georgetown, plus lots more.

The filming took place almost exactly two months ago (RSP)

The filming took place almost exactly two months ago. It takes time to put something like this together. (RSP)

On the Hill, the segments on the alleys and Congressional Cemetery are joined by pieces on Rose’s Luxury and Peterbug’s Shoe Repair Academy. In putting together the program, the producers have gone out of their way to find what is hidden and unusual in these places. In short, no matter how long you have lived on Capitol Hill or in D.C., there is sure to be something new to be learned.

But enough of my yakking. Here’s the preview:

WETA Neighborhoods will premiere on July 5 at 8:00 PM on WETA 26 and on WETA HD, and will be rebroadcast a number of times throughout July. You can also find more information as well as clips from previous programs – and, eventually, those from this episode – at the WETA Neighborhoods website.
