DC Moms & Dads for Rational Gun Safety Legislation is a group of D.C. parents who lack voting representation in Congress but want to show support for meaningful national legislation that will prevent gun violence. They are organizing a march from Lincoln Park to the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday, July 5.
Wear your patriotic or D.C. gear, make signs, and please bring your kids – this is their march too! (Please bring water, sunscreen, and hats – all the usual kid provisions, as it will be hot)
July 5, 2016
7:15-8:00 a.m.: meet at west end of Lincoln Park (11th St and Massachusettes Ave)
8:15-9:00 a.m.: march to Capitol Building along East Capitol (sidewalk use only)
9:00 a.m.: finish at New Jersey and Independence Aves, SE
In our view, meaningful legislation begins with, but is not limited to:
- universal background checks for all transfers of firearms;
- an end to the ban on scientific research on gun violence by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (a repeal of the so-called “Dickey Amendment”)
- protecting the District of Columbia’s gun laws from Congressional interference.
