RAINN created and runs the National Sexual Assault Hotline, which provides support and care to more than 500 survivors of sexual violence each day. Since its inception in 1994, they have helped more than two million people on their journey to recovery. In addition to direct support services, they also work to ensure legislation that supports the needs of survivors and also to educate the public about this vital issue.
Running has been shown to be therapeutic to survivors of sexual violence and their loved ones, providing an opportunity for personal empowerment after trauma, and we hope to be able to spread that message further. One out of every six women is a survivor of sexual assault, so this is an important issue that affects every community.
