Hey Spring! Thanks for stopping by. Took you long enough…

SO how to celebrate the extra days to turn in our taxes??

Tonight at 6pm learn to pair cocktails and bivalves at Union Market Rappahannock: Pearls & Potions. This week’s Test Kitchen event features the folks from Rappahannock Oyster Bar. Your $54 ticket includes a dozen oysters and three cocktails. Get yours here.

Tony Tomelden from The Pug is hosting a fundraiser for Iowa  Congressman Rod Blum’s opponent. You may recall this public servant wishing a recession on our fair city. What a D. Due to an overwhelming number of locals interested in sending his ignorant, unpatriotic self back home, there are two sessions, 5:30 to 7:30pm and 8pm to 10pm. A $20 donation will get you all the draft beer you like.

Friday the Hill Center begins a weekend observing Emancipation Day with a free walking tour, concert and discussion series. Named for the Old Naval Hospital’s first patient – a young African American seaman taken prisoner by Confederate ships – Benjamin Drummond Emancipation Day Celebration – The First Freed: Exploring African American Life & Culture in Washington, D.C. This year marks 154 years since President Abraham Lincoln signed The District of Columbia Emancipation Act, which freed D.C.’s 3,000+ slaves, nearly nine months before the Emancipation Proclamation. View a full list of events here.

Pianist Eri  Yamamoto performs two concerts at the Atlas Saturday night at 7pm and then 8:30pm. David Ambrosio (bass), Ikuo Takeuchi (drums) round out the trio which will perform Yamamoto’s fresh and melodic original pieces. Tickets are available here.

Off the Hill but only just, the USA Science and Engineering Festival is taking place at the Washington Convention Center all weekend. Expect to enjoy shows and participate in more than 3,000 hands-on activities (which you can see here) spread across 16 different pavilions. Check out the website and plan your visit here.

Sunday night you can finally finish your taxes so you can get them in the mail Monday! Have a wonderful weekend!
