Learn to make Tuscan dishes tonight at Union Market

Spring Break for many local kids and the roads are a little lighter and the cherry blossoms are on the way out so we will soon be back to only dodging the usual spring hordes of our nation’s 8th graders.

How do we celebrate?

Today pretend you are working during a LIVE gardening chat with Department of Public Work today at noon. DPW’s Helping Hand Program will once again join forces with our very own Frager’s Lawn and Garden Center to help residents tackle their toughest gardening challenges during a live, online chat today from 12:001:00 pm. Whether you’re planting a flower box or a community garden, this online chat will help you grow your best.

According to DPW if you want to participate go to dpw.dc.gov/livechat or visit www.dpw.dc.gov and select the “Live Chat” icon at the top of DPW’s homepage (you may need to scroll through the icons to make it appear). Transcripts of all chat sessions can be reviewed after the session by following these same instructions.

Tonight at 6pm Union Market opens its Test Kitchen series with chef Daniele Catalani who focuses on the delicious specialties of Florence. Lean to make dishes include homemade fennel sausage and cannellini beans, spinach and ricotta favioli, and ricotta cheesecake. Tickets are $54 and you can purchase one here.

Friday Bayou Bakery’s chef David Guas hosts a Mead and Greet Happy Hour. In collaboration with Charm City Meadworks, he will be serving mead-based cocktails at Happy Hour prices. Complimentary snacks such as Grilled Sausage, Local Cheeses, Pork Rinds, and Grilled Veggie Toast will be handed out during the entire Mead & Greet, from 6-8PM. Bayou Bakery is on the grounds of the Hill Center at  901 Pennsylvania Avenue SE.

After the mead head inside for The Sublime Stand-Up Comedy Series. Hoat  Allan Sidley welcomes Herbie Gill, Becca Steinhoff and Pete Buchbauer.

Saturday head to a special Sip ‘n Paint Fundraising event for Capitol Hill Arts Workshop from 3pm to 5pm. With step-by-step instructions, you will create a piece to commemorate the timeless yet fleeting cherry blossoms. Tickets are $40 and you can register here. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 day of and you can get them here.

The Fridge hosts an opening for the exhibit entitled There is No Plan B. The exhibit is Gregg Deal’s new body of work about the current political and social state of America. In Deal’s first show dealing entirely in paper, creating a number of posters that comment on the American state of things through art. The reception is from 7pm to 11pm. On Sunday come back for an artist’s talk from 1pm to 2pm and stay for the stencil and spray paint workshop.
