To Do Weekend of March 24th – 27th

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter!

Spring is here for real this time. Hordes of tourists too, thankssomuchforyourdollarspleasestandtotheright. How shall we avoid the Instagramming masses this weekend?

Tonight at 7pm bone up on your broth skills at the Hill Center’s Kitchen 101 Class- Bone Broths, Stocks and Consommés where you will learn the essential skills to make these essential foundation elements and even take home some samples. Chess Mark Haskell leads the class in making both Saint-Germain Soup (Fresh Pea) and Stracchino soup (Italian egg drop.) The $49 registration fee includes beer and wine. Register here.

Friday check out a preview performance of SCENA Theatre’s production of Evald Flisar’s Antigone. In this version Clara (Antigone) fights to save her brother’s grave from being demolished to make way for a golf course. Tickets are $20 -$40 and the show runs through April 2nd. Learn more here.

The Journalism in DC Film Series at the Hill Center concludes with State of Play. I thought this one showed some respect for local DC with some nice touches like shots of Heller’s bakery in Mount Pleasant. Apparently the film makers think it may be the most DC scenes actually shot in DC for a major motion picture. My favorite bit is the Americana Hotel in Crystal City. The screening is free and you can register here.

CHAW has Knit ‘n Sip and Craft and Craft Beer events for their Friday ART night.

Saturday the Southeast Library hosts a self defense workshop from 2pm to 4pm. D’Angelo Kinard of Advanced Sports Performance. Students will learn basic self-defense techniques to be used in a variety of situations with an emphasis on defending against larger/stronger assailants. Register at  southeastlibrary@dc.gov.

Mosaic Theatre debuts a new play After the War by Motti Lerner at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. It tells the story of an Israeli ex-pat who returns to Tel Aviv after an 18 year absence. The play is part of the Voices of a Changing Middle East festival. Tickets are $30, $40, $60 and are available here.

Sunday is Easter and Congressional Cemetery welcomes you to join in a sunrise service at 6:30am. No bonnets required.

It is the last day to check out the exhibit at the Folger of Shakespeare: Life of an Icon. You can see deeds for his real estate purchases and the paperwork he did to get a coat of arms for his family. Such an upstart. Check out this video of the installation of the exhibit and stay for the comments fight about authorship of the plays. (It was the glove maker’s son from Stratford btw.) Internet fights + Shakespeare? I’m in!

Happy weekend!
