Do you want to be part of the DC Citizen Snow Team? There is a happy hour orientation at Ping Pong Dim Sum TONIGHT, December 18thYou can sign up by clicking this link.

Although the need for citizen volunteers to help clear snow is most dire in Wards 4, 7 and 8, it snows in ALL wards, so you may as well sign up and help out Serve DC (and your community), right? The city needs you, if you are an able-bodied individual with a penchant for social service and a fondness for shoveling snow.

You don’t need to be a fan of Game of Thrones to know Winter Is Coming, and citizens are required to clear snow from around their property within 24 hours of a snowfall. Sure, right now it’s absolutely gorgeous outside and it’s impossible to picture the 9 hours of sunlight and the blankets of snow/sleet/ice/wintry mix that we’ll be shoveling in a scant few weeks –although we’ve had a few wonderful preview days, before the days of eternal summer, that is.

During a snowfall or snowstorm, the elderly population needs the community’s help: While there are many able-bodied older citizens who can care for themselves and their properties, the lower temperatures and the slick conditions can make snow removal difficult, dangerous or downright deadly. Monitor your neighbors and make sure you check up on them. During this workshop, you will be given tools and information. You can also learn more about helping your neighbors from the District Office on Aging, or you can reach Serve DC via email at servedc.info@dc.gov or by calling (202) 727-7925.
