It’s November. Can’t even.

Tonight the Hill Center Jazz Ensemble will perform under the leadership of saxophonist Marshall Keys. Each performance consists of an original repertoire which reflects the state of jazz in DC.  Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, and the concert begins at 7:30. Tickets are available here.

Friday Congressional Cemetery hosts the annual celebration of the birth one of its most famous residents, John Philips Sousa. The event begins at 10:30 with a volunteer awards ceremony and the Marine Band will be on hand to play some of Sousa’s famous marches. Birthday cake available for all, not just marchers.

That night Gallery O/H hosts an opening for artist Luis Del Valle. In addition to the portraits, there will be music by singer/songwriter Wes Felton and a piece choreographed and performed by members of Washington Dance Institute. The reception begins at 7pm. Learn more about the event here.

Saturday the Friends of the Northeast Library will host a used book sale from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm in the basement of the library at 7th and Maryland NE. There will be three rooms full of a wide variety of donated books for sale. The funds raised from the sale support the programs at the Northeast Library.

The Atlas welcomes back Czech dancer and performance artist, Miřenka Čechová. The performance, entitled The Voice of Anne Frank, explores the ordinary experiences of a girl who lived during extraordinary times, through movement, spoken word and music. The performance begins at 8pm and tickets are $20-$28. Tickets are available here.

Of course, Saturday night is also The Hilly Awards! Come out the St. Mark’s Church for a night of fun toasting area businesses. The event begins at 6pm and the ceremony will be hosted by Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen.

Sunday, the 4th annual Taste of H Auction to benefit JO Wilson Elementary School on Sunday, November 8th, 2015.  JO Wilson is a transforming Title 1 school in NE DC with nearly 30 homeless families attending. Be prepared to taste treats from many local restaurants, bid on swag from local businesses and enjoy music by the all lady/ all-awesome drum ensemble Batala as well as the spinning of DJ Jimmy. (Do DJs still spin? Do they just plug in their iPods? I am old, so these are real questions.)

At the Hill Center learn to make fall themed floral centerpieces. Hosted by Capitol Romance and local florist, Love Blooms, you can get get moving on that Thanksgiving to do list by learning to make a pumpkin floral arrangement centerpiece.  The workshop is from 2pm to 4pm and costs $40. Your registration fee covers all materials needed to create the craft, beverages and snacks from local DC vendors, and an edible favor. Register here.
