Are you enjoying your Popecation? Sadly Francis leaves tomorrow to bring his commute-reducing energy to our northern friends. So what shall we do when His Holiness is gone?

Tonight Miner Elementary School (601 15th Street NE) hosts an Education Forum. The school community invites community members to join in a discussion of the school’s current offerings and a discussion of where it may go. The event is free and begins at 6pm. RSVP here.

At the Atlas, the musical group Quintango performs Tango: Community Art for the Ages a performance celebrating the legacy of tango. Stay for the post-concert conversation to explore how art shapes communities and how communities shape art. The concert begins at 8pm and  tickets are $20-$22. Buy them here.

Councilmember Charles Allen hold evening Community Office Hours in the gardens of the Hill Center at 921 Pennsylvania Avenue, SE. Start your weekend early by grabbing a snack at Bayou Bakery and then go complain about crime and parking.

Friday Tortilla Coast begins its celebration of the Texas State Fair. For three weeks the Tex-Mex stalwart will feature drink and menu specials which will include something called Tot-chos (nachos with tater tots playing the part normally undertaken by tortilla chips. To each his own.) Look for other fun events like Let’s Taco ‘Bout Trivia on Tuesdays. I kind of can’t believe I just wrote that. If you want to join in the fun from your couch just use the hashtags #YouHadMeAtFried and #TSFyourself.

Saturday the Sherwood Neighborhood Volunteers host the Second Annual Sherwood Day.  The event begins at 10 am at the Sherwood Recreation Center (640 10th St NE.) Expect family-friendly, community-building activities running all day, including a moon bounce and face painting.

H Street favorite the Argonaut (1433 H Street NE) celebrates its 10th birthday. Beginning at 2pm there will be specials, giveaways and live bluegrass music. They grow up so fast…

Crafty Bastards returns to Union Market this weekend. From 10am to 5pm both Saturday and Sunday over 170 vendors will be selling their wares including furniture, housewares, jewelry, clothing and art. Tickets are  are $5 in advance; $8 for a weekend pass. Get them in advance here or at the gate.

Barracks Row holds its annual Fall Festival which will include a military chef cook-off, a performance by Trapeze School New York, magician Max Major, the Georgetown Chimes and a Donkey Procession… The fun lasts from 10am to 5pm and all are welcome. The Washington Humane Society hold the annual Walk for Animals from 10am to 2pm. The event will be held at the Kingsbury Center 5000 14th Street NW. (Yes NW but it’s for the animals…) There will be contests, vendors and the fundraising walk itself. There is still time to register. Learn more here.

Art All Night- Nuit Blanche DC returns Saturday night. This Parisian inspired all-night art party takes place in several neighborhoods around town. H Street’s Atlas Performing Arts Center serves as a local hub with a performance by jazz pianist Eldar, installations and a DJ party. Red Rocks, Gallery O/H, Makketto will all be participating and Art Whino takes over the large warehouse space at 700 H with work from over 70 artists. Learn more here.

Congressional Cemetery hosts another installment of Cinematery with a showing of Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho. The gates open at 6:30 and the film will begin at 7:30. Bring your own food, drinks and seating. A suggested donation of $10 would be lovely and please leave Fido at home.

Sunday the Hill Center hosts a Family Fun Festival from 2:30-4 pm Fun activities outside in the garden for kids, including a moon bounce. You can’t have a family festival without a moon bounce! At 3 pm there is a kids concert with Ken Waldman, Alaska’s fiddlin’ poet and the days closes out with a concert at 4 pm by Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen. The event is free. Learn more here.

New chamber group Chiarina presents at concert at 4pm at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation (212 East Capitol St NE featuring the Schumann Piano Quintet and music by J.S. Bach and Mendelssohn. The event is free and open to the public.

Another offering in the Women’s Voices Theatre Festival takes place at the Fringe Festival headquarters Logan Arts Space at 1358 Florida Avenue NE. Whenever You’re Near Me I Feel Sick by playwright Jenny Eng is comedy about a couple that just can’t quit each other, followed by four true, but totally not tragic stories about breaking up and shaking it off. will be followed by Special Event Performance of Storytelling Collaborative LOCAL YOGURT. There are performances at 2pm and 7pm and tickets for the whole event are $25.00 and are available here.

    You forgot to list the Oktoberfest Weiner Dog Races going on this wknd at Navy Yard. It’s this Saturday from noon to 5pm I believe.
