Neighbors Rally to Catch Hill East Thief

Every once in a while you hear of people coming together as a community and doing something heroic. Sometimes, that community is your community. This weekend, we received an email from a Hill East neighbor sharing one such story.

A resident who’s called the Hill home for less than a  year put his front porch surveillance camera to good use this past Saturday August 8. At 11:42 a.m., a package was delivered to his Hill East home. By the time the resident arrived, at 5:49 p.m., the package was missing. The surveillance camera showed a person walking toward the porch while holding a bag at 3:46 p.m. At 6:22, he posted the clip to a Facebook group and to popular neighbor listserv New Hill East. The neighbor also called the Metropolitan Police to report the theft. A couple of hours later, a neighbor recognized the suspect from the clip thanks to his distinctive outfit and called MPD, where police apprehended him. It’s good to know that neighbors have each other’s backs, with not a small assist from technology. Good job, everyone!
