Post-4th of July I always get this feeling of dread that the summer is halfway over. Illogical but whatever. Get out there!
Tonight get over to the Atlas for Landless Theatre’s prog-metal take on the musical Sweeney Todd. I’m not sure it it is Sondheim-approved but, who cares? The story of the vengeful barber who offs his clients so his landlady can make tasty meat pies seems suited for a metal makeover. The show runs tonight through August 3nd. Capital Fringe kicks off tonight. The funky fest has moved east and set up residence on Florida Avenue and this year’s festival takes places in Trinidad, Brookland and H Street, including the Atlas, the Argonaut, the Fridge and CHAW. So much is happening so there is no excuse not to check something out. There is a show that involves a dude coming to your house to wash dishes. Literally something for everyone.
Slow jam into the weekend Friday night at East Side yoga’s Hip Hop Happy hour. Enjoy a slow flow yoga class followed by cheer with your fellow yogis. The class begins at 6:30. Register here.
There are a few spots left for chef David Guas’s Barbecue Boot Camp Saturday morning at the Hill Center. The Travel Channel host and chef/owner of the Hill’s new Bayou Bakery will lead the class from 11:00 am to 1:30.
