Lots going on this weekend so let’s get to it.

Today DC celebrates Emancipation Day and the Hill Center has a weekend of events planned beginning this evening with a discussion about African Americans and the Civil War with Dr. Daryl M Scott and moderated by Yoni Applebaum. Tonight’s event begins at 7pm and is free. Register in advance here. The whole weekend is full of great events with celebs such as poet Nikki Giovanni, chef Carla Hall and our own Robert Pohl.

Friday night at CHAW is ARTnight and another installment of Clay & Cabernet . Sip wine and play with mud! The cost is $40 which covers the refreshments and supplies. The class runs from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

Celebrate the music of …the Marx Brothers? Okay? Saxophonist Brad Linde and his ensemble take on the music of these classic movies in a modern post-cool fashion onstage at the Atlas called A Night at the Bopera. It doesn’t say anything about going in costume but I’m going to encourage it. Groucho glasses and Harpo wigs  Sigh, too bad Backstage moved. Tickets are $22-$28 and the concert begins at 8 pm.

Sure we just celebrated the 150th anniversary Lee’s surrender at Appomattox but let’s not forgot this whole crazy country started. Saturday, Congressional Cemetery hosts its 3rd annual Revolutionary War Living history Day. Many of the cemetery’s, um, residents played a part in the founding of this country and to honor them there will be reenactors from the College of WIlliam and Mary, a tour of Revolutionary War graves, firing demos and music, gotta have some fire and drums right? The event runs from 11am to 3pm and is free. A full schedule of the day can be found here.

B-Fly Entertainment returns to the Atlas with B-Fly Backstage- Diverse Solo Shows from Women. Four talented and powerful performers; a Black feminist, a B-girl, a Mormon and a Hindu dreamer tell their stories and then will engage with the audience. Expect lots of encouragement to tweet and post your reactions. Tickets are $20 and are available here.

Sunday celebrate the Bard at the Folger’s Annual Birthday part for the English language’s favorite playwright. This event is awlays fun with tours, performances, stage combat demos and of course cake. The event begins at noon and is free.

Once, several years ago, my kids did something terrible while we were at this event, I no longer remember what it was but it must have been bad because we left BEFORE just before they served the cake. I just marched them home. That was a fun walk.

Have a great weekend everyone!
