Days without dates will be presented by JESSA Saturday evening at the ATlas.

What is on deck for this first weekend of March? Besides snowball fights and illicit sledding?

Much of tonight’s events are canceled but plenty of restaurants are open and ready for business. The Pug is hosting a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity and has promised $1 off drafts should we get to 6 inches.

Provided we are back to normal, Friday begins the final weekend of the Atlas’ INTERSECTIONS Festival. At 7pm is Days without dates by JESSA. This mixed media theatre performance intertwines testimonies of veterans, nurses, and their families. The performance is free ($2 ticket fee) and you can reserve your seats here.

Saturday the Sewall -Belmont House celebrates Women’s History month with an open house from 11am to 3pm. At 1pm actress/activist Kate Campbell Stevenson presents a 20 minute musical theatre piece about real-life socialite/explorer Louise Arner Boyd. The San Francisco socialite led seven Arctic expeditions. Wow. More information can be found here.

The Capitol Hill Art League will host its annual region-wide art competition show with an opening reception on Saturday, March 7th from 5-7 PM at CHAW. The show, entitled Food for Thought, juried by well-known Washington food writer Bonny Wolf, pays note to Washington, D.C.’s newish status as a food town.  From creative fare to celebrity chefs to unique venues, the nation’s capital boasts diverse restaurants that fit any palette and price range. There may be more talk about food in DC than politics these days. The selected artists’ works represent many media and a range of subjects from humble vegetables, comfort food and artistic concepts that creatively capture the ever-popular topic of food. This is a multi-media show, which runs through April 16th.

The Fridge hosts a free screening of the documentary On Your Mark, Get Set, Mow! which tells the story of the world of lawn mower racing. Who knew? The film is being used as a fundraiser for research in Huntington’s disease. More information can be found here.
