What are your plans this weekend? Downton is over and you already binged on House of Cards. The weather is getting better so it is time to leave the house. Here are few ideas:

Tonight at the Hill Center, get over your fear of cooking fish with Fiona Lewis from District Fishwife. Students will learn how to select fish as well as how to prepare  an appetizer of pan seared garlic shrimp and an entree consisting of a whole baked fish with rice and Vietnamese nuoc cham dipping sauce. The class begins at 7 and costs $75. Learn more and register here.

Friday night is ARTnights at Capitol Hill Arts Workshop. Depending upon your mood you can either sample a hip hop dance class or sip some wine while you learn to pain from a CHAW teaching artist. The dance workshop is $25 and Paint & Sip is $30. More information can be found here.

Saturday the Friends of the Southeast Library hosts its monthly book sale from 10am to 3pm. Find all kinds of treasures. new and mostly used books of all types, including children’s books, fiction, best sellers, non-fiction, mysteries, science, science fiction, romance, religion, history, biography, self-help, classics, travel, etc.

The Corner Store hosts a performance inspired by the classic story about Ferdinand the bull who was a flower- lover, not a fighter. In this piece Tom, a single dad who just wants to raise his son Ferdinand with love and empathy in a world determined to make him fight. The performance is at 2pm and donations of any size are accepted.

Magician Max Major returns the to Atlas for a new show THINK Again. Major is way beyond card tricks and treats his audiences to an evening of mind reading, magic and hypnosis. My 12 year old is a BIG fan. His shows always sell out so you will need to get those tickets ASAP.

Sunday afternoon enjoy some world music at the Hill Center. The first is a series of concerts called Dounouya: Global Sounds features musician Janka Nabay from Sierra Leone accompanied by the Bubu Gang is comprised of members of Les Rhinoceros and Cheick Hamala Diabate’s Washington, DC band. The series is curated and hosted by Brendan Canty, of Fugazi and Jim Thomson who owns Electric Cowbell records. The event begins at 4pm and will feature a pre-concert chat with the curators and musicians, Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Learn more and get tickets here.
