Capital Rowing Celebrates 27 Years

unnamedThe river may still be frozen but Capital Rowing is thinking about spring, and kicking off their 27th year of offering rowing opportunities for experienced rowers, as well as novices. As someone who rowed in high school and college, I can tell you that there are few better ways to appreciate the beauty of our local waterways than by rowing on the calm waters in the early morning hours.

The community program, located on the Anacostia River, offers a variety recreational and competitive sweep and sculling opportunities for experienced rowers, as well as beginners who have never touched an oar.

Capital Rowing welcomes metro area residents with multiple opportunities to get out on the water. The club offers both sweep and sculling programs. Sweep rowing is 4- or 8-person shells where each person has one large oar; sculling is double and single boats where each person has two small oars.

Capital is managed solely by volunteers and is devoted to bringing rowing opportunities to youths, adults and families. More information on Capital Rowing programs is available through the Club’s official website, www.capitalrowing.org.
