Weekend East City Event Round Up: 2015 Keeps Getting Better Edition

Thursday, January 15

Long View Gallery – 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In Jodi Walsh’s solo exhibit Past, Present & Future, she explores the use of space through her sculptural works that hang from the walls and ceiling. Through these works, Walsh hopes viewers will stop and reflect on the different moments of life. For more details, click here.

Arts Walk at Monroe Street Market– 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The following studios will be open for this month’s Third Thursday: 3, 5, 11, 12, 14, 16, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27 which includes Cedric Baker, Stitch & Rivet, Magpie Studios and Black Lab.

Friday, January 16

Washington Project for the Arts – on view 24 hours

Hothouse Video: Marina Zurkow featured six video animations, which form a narrative commenting on man’s interactions in the environment. The 144-hour video cycles continuously so viewers never see the same hand-drawn images twice. For details, click here.

The show will be at Capitol Skyline Hotel located at 10 I (Eye) Street SW.

Flashpoint Gallery – 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Lulled Land is the second solo exhibition of Tai Hwa Goh at Flashpoint Gallery. Her art mixes hand-waxing and traditional printmaking techniques to create layered pieces that represent the layers of memories we all have. For more information, click here.

Upshur Street Books – 7 p.m.

Pleasant Plains Workshop starts off the New Year with an exhibition focused on prints at Upshur Street Books. Resident artists will display their hand-pulled prints with multiples available for sale. For more information about the sale and exhibition, click here.

Saturday, January 17

DC GlassWorks – 10 a.m.

Sally Resnik Rockriver visits DC GlassWorks to demonstrate her unique style of glassblowing. Rockriver’s conceptual approach stems from her self-taught techniques. For more information about the demonstration, click here.

DC Glassworks is located at 5366 46th Ave., Hyattsville, MD.

Glen Echo Park Partnership – 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Wayson Jones explores the properties of acrylic paints and gel media in his solo exhibition Jewels at the Stone Tower Gallery. Jones plays with perspective in his collages to encourage viewers to question the world around them. For more details about the exhibition, click here.

doris-mae at Studio Gallery – 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Portraits of Self as Others features the works of Luke Alexander Atkinson, Kanchan Balse, Laura Elkins, Amanda Kates, Joren A. Lindholm and Paul Pietsc. Thomas Drymon’s goal in curating this exhibit was to find artists who showed “individual viewpoints within the context of the work.” For details, click here.

CHAW – 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Personally Speaking…is a small-works exhibit featuring the works of thirteen CHAL artists being displayed at CHAW. Juror Ellen Cornett will give a brief talk about the exhibit during the opening reception. For more information, click here.

Brentwood Arts Exchange – 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Ellyn Weiss, Pat Goslee, and Sally Resnick Rockriver display their works in Unmapped. The collective works examine the spaces between the common and known aspects of the world. For more details, click here.

HEMPHILL – 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The new exhibition at HEMPHILL celebrates the works of artist William de Looper and showcases his works from 1964-1970. Visitors can see how de Looper infused his canvases with color to create each piece. For more information, click here.

Adah Rose Gallery – 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Jim Condron and Kristen Liu display their works at Adah Rose Gallery – for the first time – in Your Memories, Your Sentiments, Your Wishes, Your Secrets. Both artists explore the strange and unusual through their own styles. For more information about the artists, click here.
