I hope you all are slowly recovering from our collective disappointment in San Francisco.  There is always next year though as a sports newbie, I can’t take the stress. How shall we spend out time until April?

Dancing always cheers me up, tonight you can begin a 4 week crash course in Belly Dancing at CHAW. The course is designed for total beginners so no experience is necessary. At the end of the four weeks students will take part in a performance for family and friends. Recital time! The class runs from 7:30 to 8:30. Register here.

Friday night China’s first rock band Second Hand Rose comes to the Atlas. The cross dressing group has been described as David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust from Shanghai. Tickets are $12 in advance at $15 at the door. Concert begins at 8pm.

At the Hill Center learn about the women who have participated in the US Space program by watching the documentary Women in Space. Following the film will be a discussion with NASA’s Dr. Michele Gates and Dr. Holly Gilbert.  The screening is free and begins at 7:30pm. YOu can learn more and register here.

Saturday morning at 10am you can take a free garden tour at the Folger.

Capitol Hill Books ( 657 C St SE)  celebrates Second Saturday with complimentary wine and cheese and 10% off all purchases.

For the wanna-be songwriters who needs a bit of incentive,  Music on the Hill is hosting a free workshop Saturday at 3pm. Phillips Wisor, guitar/mandolin/banjo teacher, and songwriter, and he has prepared a 1 hour interactive talk about various aspects of songwriting- how to get started, what do do when you are stuck, as well as some technical tricks and tools of the trade.
