Today, Thursday, June 5, from 5:30-7 pm at School-Within-School at Goding (920 F St NE) there is an important meeting for parents on the Hill. SWS at Goding will host Deputy Mayor Abby Smith, as well as hold a discussion regarding Boundary and Feeder patterns. This discussion will focus on the future of SWS as children move toward middle school.
Currently there are two options for the rising class, which will attend 6th grade in the 2017-2018 school year. The discussion will also touch on whether or not the school should have geographical boundaries within Capitol Hill; currently, SWS is deemed a specialized elementary school and has open citywide enrollment.
This is part of a larger series of meetings being carried out throughout the city, on how to draw schools’ boundaries and how best to address the needs of the community. It is important to weigh in on this sensitive matter, especially for neighbors in close proximity to the area, and for those planning on having a future DCPS attendee in their midst. The community has had opportunities to weigh in through sites like Engage DC, as well as earlier meetings; the school’s LSAT released a document stating their position as well, which you can access by clicking this link.
If you have strong opinions on this matter, make it a priority to attend this meeting.
