Did you still hear the grief and trauma of parents on the Hill reeling from the results of the DC Public School Lottery this Monday? Local “it-girl/boy” neighborhood schools (those who’s first slots to go to in-boundary families) including Peabody Primary, Maury Elementary, and Brent Elementary are said to only to have accepted half 9 (or less) of the three and four year olds living eligible, and these schools and other local ones have wait lists that number in the hundreds.
Some of those boundary lines and feeder patterns will be redrawn in the coming months, and the first draft of the DCPS proposal will be release tomorrow at Dunbar High School from 9-10 a.m. The meeting will focus on changes for schools in Ward 6.
Dunbar High is located at 101 N Street, NW. There are two other meetings presenting the first round of scenarios for schools in other parts of the city.
The following items are on the list of discussion during the three hour meeting:
* An information session at the beginning where to learn more about factors that went into the first set of proposals
* Presentation of the proposed boundary and feeder pattern scenarios
* Discussions of these proposals
Sure, it’s a Saturday, but a grassroots response will be key to representing the needs, priorities and preferences of Capitol Hill residents. Big changes may be ahead and key stakeholders in this process will be listening at this meeting.
The Post reported on the proposals outlined in Saturday’s meeting. The proposals are sure to stir up a reaction on the Hill. http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/education/dc-releases-proposed-school-boundaries-and-far-reaching-student-assignment-policies/2014/04/05/368521e0-bc46-11e3-96ae-f2c36d2b1245_story.html
