Hill's Eye View: All Eyes on Trash Cans

by number7cloud on flickr

I’ve heard some Hill residents are making goggly eyes at their large 32 gallon trash cans and 48 gallon recycling cans (not one like one pictured. The new “super cans” are issued by the DC Department of Public Works).

The question has come up as to what to do with the old cans. The new trash bins will include three “Take Me” labels.  Use these labels to classify which can(s) you want DPW to remove.  The cans must be empty. Then, call 311 or (202) 737-4404 to make a container removal service request.

Also, you can keep your old can as long as you keep it on your property. Otherwise, you may receive a sanitation citation for having your can(s) on public space outside of your scheduled collection.

My street is littered with new bins that nobody needed and old bins that are not being picked up and are still perfectly functional. Distributing new bins to people who neither wanted them nor needed them is wasteful.
