O Christmas Tree – On the Hill

Child labor at the 1st Annual Brent Christmas Tree Sale

Child labor at the 1st Annual Brent Christmas Tree Sale

All done with your Thanksgiving feast? Have you finished correcting everyone that it’s the “Macy’s THANKSGIVING Day Parade” and not simply the Macy’s Day Parade? Done extolling the virtues of apple pie over pumpkin, or, God forbid, pecan? Well good. Time to swap out our A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving for A Charlie Brown Christmas.

Which requires, in the finest pagan traditions, a tree. Fear not, Hill folk! This doesn’t mean we have to get in a car and head to the, shudder, suburbs! We’ve got you covered locally:

  • Brent Elementary is hosting their 3rd Annual Christmas Tree & Holiday Sale next weekend, December 7-8. Wander on down for holiday music and a good time, but if you don’t relish the idea of hauling a tree across the Hill, order through the Brent Store. Free delivery if done before December 1st!
  • Our good friends at Fragers had a tough 2013, but they’re still in the holiday spirit! Trees under 5 feet, as well as lights, garlands, etc, are on sale at the pad across from Eastern Market, while taller trees, along with tree stands, are available at the usual site at 1115 Pennsylvania Ave, SE.
  • The always delightful Gingko Gardens has trees in stock as we speak, ranging from 2 foot tabletops to 10 footers. They also have a full selection of garland, wreaths, ornaments, and, as you would only expect, flowering indoor plants. Come out next weekend for their annual sale, with a minimum 25% markdown on most merchandise.
  • And, of course, our very own Eastern Market will, as always, have trees available at the outside market.
