Breakfast never tasted so sweet.

The owners of Curbside Cupcakes have taken over the shop at the corner of 15th and C Streets SE and expanded their baked wares at the new Curbside Café.  For now, the eatery is only open for breakfast, but lunch is coming soon, and brunch won’t be far behind.  No matter when you stop by, you can pick up a few of their delicious cupcakes in addition to other treats.

Currently Curbside Café offers a variety of baked goods to start your day – all homemade on site.  There are frosted doughnuts with sprinkles, muffins, buttery croissants, chocolate filled croissants, and a variety of pop tarts that have been the focus of my visits so far.  Savory pop tarts rival store-bought breakfast options and taste like a more thoughtful version of a Hot Pocket.  Options include spinach and egg or egg, cheese, and bacon.  Sweet varieties include strawberry, roasted cinnamon apple, and nutella.  The apple tart must include a whole apple judged by weight alone, but the moist and soft apple pieces work well with the flaky crust and thick, sweet icing.  The fillings are generous and taste of real ingredients.

A full coffee bar is available, featuring Vigilante Coffees.  There’s a refrigerated case with juice and milk options as well.

The Café is currently open Tuesday through Friday from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. until noon.  When lunch hours are added, expect an expanded menu of soups, salads and sandwiches.  And of course, cupcakes are available at any time.
