H Street Chefs Get Political in Food Competition

Screen Shot 2013-10-20 at 9.19.01 PMHere’s a new election strategy in DC’s mayoral race — use food.

Councilmember and mayoral hopeful Tommy Wells is putting on a food-focused fundraiser tonight that brings together a handful of chefs from the H Street corridor, all to compete in a food challenge. Wells, who kicked off his campaign on H Street earlier this year, looks as if he’s using H Street’s kitchen credibility to make a run for mayor.

While we’re not saying that you should vote with your stomach in next year’s election, at least for this food competition, you can. Those attending the fundraiser will vote for H Street’s top dish. A $55 donation to the campaign includes food and drinks. And, the drinks might have some deeper political meaning. DC Brau is serving [No] Corruption IPA.

Contenders for this competition include The Pug, Boundary Road, Smith Commons, H Street Country Club and Vendetta. See the full list of competitors and dishes after the jump.
