To Do

bearnaiseAre your ears still ringing from your local fireworks celebration?  Did you take the day off because it just didn’t make sense to interrupt the weekend momentum initiated yesterday? Lucky you.

Well the how shall you spend this rest of this weekend?

Tonight keep the feel-good holiday-vibe at the Rock and Roll Hotel. The reggae-roots band FeelFree headlines a night of groovy bands. The show is all ages and tickets are $10. Doors open at 7pm. Fore information can be found of the Rock and Roll Hotel’s website.

Spike Mendelssohn fans will be thrilled to know his newest effort, Béarnaise, opens tonight. Next to his other restaurants in the space formerly occupied by Thai Roma, Bearnaise aims to emulate a French steak-frites bistro with red meat and unlimited french fries. I’m kind of glad I don’t eat meat and will likely not go here because the concept of unlimited fries is kind of awesomely terrifying. The images of the restaurant indicate the decorating scheme differs from Spike’s previous two Pennsylvania Avenue offerings and they lean more towards images of famous French people rather than enormous images of a non-winning Top Chef contestant.

I have a little confession to make. Every time I hear the restaurant’s name this scene runs through my head.

Saturday finally learn how to properly use your SLR camera at  the Washington School of Photography Foundations of D-SLR Photography workshop at the Hill Center. This is a four week course where you’ll learn to operate your Digital SLR camera in manual exposure mode. You’ll be able to choose your own aperture, shutter speed and ISO, in addition to many other options like White Balance, JPG vs. Raw and various compositional techniques. The workshop meets for a total of four 3-hour sessions: three in-class sessions at Hill Center and one Field Trip around Capitol Hill. The workshop runs from 10am to 1pm and costs $245. More information can be found here.

Sunday why not get up and out early and help out at the monthly 13th Street Community Park Care Day. The garden is located at corner 13 and C, SE. No skills are necessary, just show up and be prepared to help.

UNLIMITED FRIES? more like terrifyingly awesome! Sound a lot like Medium Rare in Clev. Park, which actually has unlimited meat and frites. Well maybe they only come twice, but i can’t imagine asking for THIRDS!
