Join me tonight, Thursday, July 11 from 5:30 to 8pm at the Gordon Biersch Navy Yard for a happy hour with friends and volunteers of the Southwest Duck Pond! Located at the corner of 6th and I (Eye) Streets SW, and completed in 1972 as part of the Town Center redevelopment around the Waterfront metro station, what is now known as the Southwest Duck Pond has, like many places in DC, gone through a variety of eras of investment. As Southwest is on the verge of yet another major revival, neighbors have gathered together to celebrate the pond because of the feeling of escape you get walking around it, its mid-century landscape aesthetic, and its location across from Arena Stage and between many of the most active, densely populated, and redeveloping portions of the neighborhood.

Tomorrow’s happy hour will be a casual gathering to meet people from across the area, share information and community advocacy stories, partake in Gordon Biersch’s specials, and sample the mysterious “Duck Pond” mystery cocktail. And if you’re looking for an awesome Southwest Duck Pond t-shirt, this is a rare opportunity to get one! All proceeds go to duck pond advocacy, restoration, and clean-up efforts.
I hope to see you there! Sign up on the event Facebook page or just show up!
Time: 5:30-8pm
Location: Gordon Biersch Navy Yard, 100 M Street SE (1st and M SE)
