Remember when I was grousing about the dangers of crossing Pennsylvania Avenue at Potomac Avenue to Harris Teeter? Well, it seems there’s a plan — and government funding — to improve this crazy mess of an intersection.

This Thursday, January 31st, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will hold a meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Payne Elementary School, 1445 C Street, SE, to share plans to improve pedestrian safety at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue, SE and Potomac Avenue, SE. Meaning, hopefully, that the not-so-neighborly game of Frogger may be at end sometime in the future.

Representatives from DDOT and the project’s technical team will be on hand to share plans and future plans for the area around the Potomac Avenue Metro Station. The study for the Pennsylvania-Potomac Avenue intersection is one in a series of transportation, environmental, economic, community and recreation projects included in the larger Anacostia Waterfront Initiative Program.
