Black Friday Shopping on the Hill: Shop Now & Save Your Sanity

A friend on Facebook recently posted a photo of Christmas presents all ready to go, wrapped and everything. I’d like to think she’s the only person in the world who is that organized, and that the rest of you haven’t started thinking about what to buy for the holidays. You can delay, but not for long – Black Friday is just a few days away! The good news is you can get a lot of shopping done without having to leave the Hill. Coupled with the fact that Nov 24th is Small Business Saturday, the days after Thanksgiving are practically begging you to support local businesses with your holiday shopping.

From H Street to Barracks Row, the Hill has many good restaurants – there’s surely someone you know who would appreciate a gift certificate to one of their favorite places.

You can’t go wrong at Eastern Market on a regular weekend, a great place to buy gifts for others (and yourself!)

If you’re shopping for someone who loves kitchenware and home goods (read: me) consider Hill’s Kitchen and Homebody. The DC landmark cookie cutters at Hill’s Kitchen are always a hit with bakers. The candles at Homebody make wonderful hostess gift for all of those parties you’ll be attending. As a side note for any Thanksgiving day kitchen needs, Hill’s Kitchen will be open on Thursday from 9a-1pm.

Pitter patter of little feet? Check out Dawn Price Baby for a variety of adorable items for the baby in your life.

For older kids, Labyrinth has games and toys to help you cross a few items off Santa’s list.

For the discerning chef, how about a nice bottle of olive oil from Sapore?

In my book, the holidays = sweet treats, and the Hill has no shortage of places to go in search of a sugar coma. The Sweet Lobby, Hello Cupcake and Dangerously Delicious are a few must-visits.

I’d be remiss to leave out the family pet! Metro Mutts and Howl to the Chief won’t let you down. From bones to dog friendly bakery items to toys and treats galore, pets are sure to be happy with whatever you purchase.

If you don’t need caffeine during the holidays, I’d like to know your secret. Coffee is a nice gift and a good way to introduce someone to a blend they might not ordinarily buy. Check out Pound or Peregrine.

And last but certainly not least, you can’t just sit around eating cookies until Christmas morning. Keep it moving with a gift card to Bikram Yoga Capitol Hill or Biker Barre.
