October 3 is Walk to School Day

It’s safe to say that life on Capitol Hill demands that residents commit to a certain amount of walking each day. We walk to the metro, the grocery store, the park, Eastern Market, but what about school? If you are quick to load your little ones into the car and head to school each morning, then Wednesday, October 3 is the perfect opportunity to join fellow families at Lincoln Park and walk to school on Walk to School Day 2012!

On Wednesday, October 3, at 7:30am, families will meet at Lincoln Park to enjoy healthful snacks and drinks (including coffee!) as well as performances by Maury and Miner cheerleaders. Guest speakers Tommy Wells and chef Alli Sosna will be on hand to talk about the benefits of a healthy diet and exercise, and fitness coach  Rita Floyd and running coach Kathy Pugh will direct the crowd in a few light exercises.

The party ends at 8:30am, with parents and students collectively walking to their respective school.

Participating schools on Capitol Hill include: Brent, Capitol Hill Montessori, Capitol Hill Cluster School, Eastern, Eliot-Hine, JO Wilson, Ludlow-Taylor, Maury, Miner, Payne, SWS, Tyler

Walk to School Day emphasizes the importance of physical activity while also addressing pedestrian safety and awareness. For more information, visit the Capitol Hill Public Schools Parent Organization at chpspo.org.
