Theatre fan? Parent of a budding thespian? Someone who knows a child with a flair for the dramatic? Then you may want to check out tonight’s free community reading of student-written work by the Young Playwrights’ Theatre. The event starts at 7pm at Capitol Hill Arts Workshop.

A part of the 2012 New Play Festival, the event will showcase family-friendly plays written by students of Watkins Elementary School, Stuart Hobson Middle School, Fillmore Elementary, Maret School, Plummer Elementary and Powell Elementary.

YPT honors plays from a diverse group of their students in a production that celebrates the playwright’s craft. This year’s showcase performance will be held at the GALA Hispanic Theatre on April 23rd & 24th at 7:30pm.

YPT Producing Artistic Director and CEO David Snider says, “from a play about a young spy looking to prove her worth to the dramatic tale of a high stakes singing competition, these Watkins students have fun, bold and inspiring stories to tell. We are thrilled to share their work with the community, and hope everyone who is moved by their words joins us at the New Play Festival showcase performance at GALA Hispanic Theatre.”
