Monday Morning Circle Time

Mr. Henry

Brrrr. Finally a properly chilly December morning. There was even frost on the cars as I snuck out of the house at 6am for yoga. The holiday spirit is beginning to creep over me as I noticed the tell-tale signs of the holiday season this weekend. Not just the obvious ones of fir trees strapped to car roofs everywhere but the more subtle things like no unsalted butter anywhere to be found at the Safeway. A sure sign that bakers were at their craft this weekend.

Schedules are full of commitments both fun and obligatory. Consumption of refined sugar is up. Yet through it all we still need to go about the daily busniness of work and chores which are squeezed in between open houses and holiday card scribbling. If we are lucky we can squeeze in a work out or two. The reckoning of January will come soon enough.

Jon spent the weekend with my inlaws, in town for the Army-Navy game. Saturday started with breakfast in Georgetown, then putting up the lights and other Christmas decorations outside our house, and ended with time at a Christmas party. Many errands were run and laundry sorted and washed on Sunday, but the day ended with some holiday cheer at the Prince George’s County Festival of Lights.

Sharee began the traditional winter purge. Knowing we will all soon be spending a LOT more time indoors, all closets, drawers and cabinets will be mercilessly emptied of anything that isn’t absolutely necessary in preparation for the traditional block yard sale on the first warm weekend of the spring.

Jen hosted eight 3rd and 4th grade boys in her home for a sleepover Friday night and spent the rest of the weekend recovering. Saturday afternoon we went to Foggy Bottom for a holiday party then back to the Hill for a low key dinner with friends. Sunday we had family over for a birthday brunch followed by a walk to Eastern Market while the birthday boy rode his new red bike. Sunday evening was the holiday/Birthday party at the Argonaut where she got to see many Hill friends.
